'Analysis of the current situation for metropolitan Melbourne indicates that the C&D* sector is already successfully recycling a significant quantity of material, particularly from large-scale projects. However, there is still much going to landfill that could be recovered, and over half of this is sourced from residential C&D activity. The priority materials identified for the C&D sector are concrete, bricks and asphalt, fill material, timber (in particular treated timber) and garden organics. Greater capacity is needed to process mixed C&D wastes and to recover materials from SMEs** (renovators in particular).'
